List Of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) Food Source
Specifically which foods contain essential fatty acids because our body can’t produce these specific essential fats.
Bear in mind these are foods or oils we consume and commercial food processing destroys a significant amount of Essential Fatty Acids along with their oxygenating ability.
There are two forms of EFAs:
- Parent Omega 6
- Linoleic-acid (LA)
- Parent omega 3
- Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
The EFAs foods sources for purest health benefits must be grown and processed organically.
The essential fatty acid oils when extracted must be via cold press, low heat process.
And no artificial preservatives added because if high heat is used in the processing, EFAs are destroyed.
High heat turns low grade oils into trans fats or hydrogenated (studies show trans fats are cancer-causing) the oils you’ve most likely heard about.
You can compare your diet and these EFA-containing foods below…
Here’s a short list of foods and categories containing EFAs:
Meats organically raised – grass-fed beef, lamb, chicken pork…
Animal-based protein is important also for anticancer vitamins, minerals and strong hemoglobin which enables oxygen transportation.
Seeds – flax, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower…
Seafood – clams, crabs, fish, lobster, oyster, shrimp…
Fruit and vegetables – no essential fatty acids.
Animals with multiple stomachs can extract EFAs from plant based cellulose like grass.
We only have one stomach so we cannot…
Even if we could extract EFAs, humans could never eat the volumes required.
Cows eat constantly all day and so do billy goats.
Grains and cereal – no essential fatty acids.
We cannot extract the EFAs from grains or cereals.
Dairy, eggs, cheese – Raw milk, cheeses and organic eggs are excellent sources.
Pasteurized (heated) milk is deficient in EFAs (shown to be detrimental to infants).
Nuts – Organic, unprocessed, raw almonds, walnuts, peanuts, cashews…
Remember eating lots of seafood is not the answer.
Seafood, especially farmed fish is overly abundant in both parent and derivative omega 3 EFAs.
